The self-paced CHCIO Prep Course takes the learner on a deeper dive into the constructs of the CHCIO Examination. Students will learn from expert CHCIO leaders, experienced in the both the field and in the CHCIO program.

This course transforms studying into application, providing clear peer-led sessions for each domain area concentrating on critical topics and leaving the student with tangible insight.

The CHIME Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) program is the first certification program exclusively for CIOs and IT executives in the healthcare industry. 

A CHCIO demonstrates the commitment, knowledge and experience required to master the core skills inherent to successful healthcare CIOs and IT executives. CHIME members who have been in a healthcare CIO or equivalent position for at least three years and want to enhance their professional stature are eligible to become certified. 

Becoming a CHCIO makes it easy for you to distinguish yourself as a leader within the healthcare IT industry. The CHCIO Program is the first healthcare industry credential developed for CIOs by CIOs. By enrolling in the CHCIO Program, you can earn the distinction of CHCIO, recognizing you for your knowledge and experience as a leader in healthcare IT.

Earning the CHCIO designation signals that you have demonstrated:

• Executive-level leadership in digital health
• The ability to navigate complex, enterprise-wide decisions
• Mastery of the knowledge and skills required of today’s healthcare CIO

Before enrolling, candidates must:

Receive confirmation of eligibility approval

Candidates who enroll without receiving application approval will be removed from the program and will not receive a refund.

Enrollment confirms that you have completed the eligibility review process.

Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements established by CHIME Certification Governance, including:

• Active CHIME provider membership in good standing
• A baccalaureate degree or ten (10) years of equivalent professional experience
• A minimum of three (3) years serving in a healthcare CIO or equivalent executive technology leadership role within the past six (6) years

Healthcare executives who perform CIO-level responsibilities but do not hold the formal CIO title may qualify through equivalent experience, subject to review. Equivalent experience is evaluated based on responsibilities such as:

• Setting the organization’s IT strategy, policies, and compliance framework
• Overseeing technology budgets, purchasing decisions, and IT talent management
• Developing and executing technology standards and enterprise architecture structures
• Establishing business partnerships within and outside the organization
• Evaluating organizational performance challenges and developing technology solutions.

Final eligibility determination is made through the CHIME certification application review process.

Enrollment provides six (6) months of access to the preparation resources and certification examination.

Candidates may review materials and sit for the exam at any time during this period once they feel prepared.

CHCIO Certification Examination

The CHCIO exam evaluates executive competence in healthcare information and digital health leadership.

The examination includes:

• 125 multiple-choice questions
• Scenario-based and knowledge-based items
• 150 minutes (2.5 hours) to complete the exam

The exam is delivered through a secure online testing environment.
